It’s not hard to find a mud run or obstacle course race. If you’ve ever thought about one, a deluge of ads on Facebook will be targeted towards you anytime an event is in your area. But what if you don’t want to wait for the Facebook algorithm gods to make an ad magically appear in your feed?
You could go to the races’ websites and see lists of upcoming sites. Or you could download the OCR Buddy app and discover what feels like an unlimited number of upcoming races. It includes mud runs, OCRs, ninja games, functional fitness competitions, and much more.
The app allows you to search by region (state, country, etc), then you can narrow it down by type of event, length, number of obstacles, etc, and then see the events that meet your filters on a monthly calendar. It’ll also notify you when new events are added in the future.
Then once you find events/races, you can save them to the app in the My Things section and plan out your race schedule.
In addition to events, you can also use the app to find gyms and coaches, see what races your “buddies” on the app are registered for and long list of race discounts and OCR products.
There’s a version for Apple, Android, and the web. It used to have a nominal fee, but now it looks like it’s a free download.
Pros
Thousands of races and events: This app will help you find races, lots of them, and ones you may not have found otherwise.
Price: Free
Cons
Search: The search allows you to search by region (state, province, etc), but I would love the ability to search a distance from a particular location like a zip code. I live near the border of two states and there’s way to search both at the same time. It’s not the end of the world by any means, but it could be made more efficient.
User interface: It’s clunky. It’s not difficult to use by any means, but there are a lot of events listed and finding the events that are relevant to you are isn’t the easiest. Instead of scrolling through month after month, and then clicking on a specific day on the calendar, I’d love just a list of events.
That being said, overall, this is a great app and should probably be on the phone of any and all obstacle course racers.
