Want to be a better obstacle course racer? Are you working towards running your next race burpee free because you completed every obstacle? Looking to move up from open heats to elite? Yancy Camp is a popular option for training with obstacle course racers across the country.
Yancy Camp is an online OCR training program. You choose an elite athlete to follow and three times a week, Yancy posts their workouts for you to do. The workouts include a mix bodyweight workouts, running and OCR specific exercises.
In general, the various athletes’ workouts are somewhat similar, but are then tweaked based on that athlete’s goals. You’ll want to pick an athlete with similar goals, whether it’s TMX, Spartan Ultra Beasts or something in between.
The workouts are designed where they can be scaled down if you’re working your way up to an elite level. Instead of doing 8 rounds, you can scale it to 4.
Results are measured by required testing at the beginning to develop a baseline, then suggested retesting every few months. The tests include max pull ups, two mile run for time, 15 minutes on an inclined treadmill for distance, etc. Seeing the improvements is awesome motivation.
Minimal equipment is needed, but there are a few nice to haves like a sandbell and access to treadmill. A pull up bar is required, but if you’re into obstacle course racing, this should already be something you own.
The price is $29 per month.
Who It’s For
If you’re looking to improve your OCR results and to get into better shape, Yancy Camp is for you.
It is not for someone that is just getting into OCR, unless you have an athletic background. There is an option for beginners or people just returning to their athletic roots called the Super Heroes program. Review coming soon.
It’s also not for someone that needs a lot of instruction. There are videos, but if you’re the type of person that needs more than text workouts, this may not be for you.
Yancy is easily the most motivating person I know and he is trusted by some of the biggest names in the sport. Follow his program and you will get results. Plus, there’s an active Facebook Group where you can get all of your question about Yancy Camp or OCR in general answered.
I’m far from an elite athlete, but I’ve seen measurable results from Yancy Camp Training. I’d highly recommend it to anyone in OCR.
If you have any questions about Yancy Camp, feel free to send me a message and I’ll be glad to answer them.
